- Tear the angel food cake into bite-sized cubes. Place half of the cubes into the bottom of a 9x13 inch glass baking dish.
- Spoon half of the cherry pie filling over the first layer of cake cubes.
- In a bowl, whisk together the vanilla pudding mix, cold milk, and sour cream until thick (about 2 minutes). Pour over the cake and cherries.
- Add the remaining angel food cake cubes over the pudding layer.
- Spread the whipped topping over the cake. Dollop the remaining cherry pie filling on top and swirl gently with a knife. Sprinkle with toasted slivered almonds.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the cake to soften.

Use torn cake instead of sliced for better absorption.
