Ingredients

Main Recipe
  • 4 whole Italian Sub Rolls Crusty, sliced lengthwise
  • 1/2 lb Genoa Salami Thinly sliced (approx 225g)
  • 1/2 lb Deli Ham Thinly sliced (approx 225g)
  • 8 oz Mozzarella Cheese Sliced (approx 225g)
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano Sprinkled over cheese
  • 2 cups Iceberg Lettuce Finely shredded (approx 150g)
  • 1/4 large Red Onion Sliced into thin rings
  • 1/2 cup Pickled Banana Peppers Drained (approx 60g)
  • 1/2 cup Creamy Italian Herb Dressing Store-bought or homemade (approx 120ml)

Equipment

  • 1 Baking Sheet Large enough for 4 sub rolls
  • 1 Mixing Bowl For the grinder salad

Method

Oven Preparation & Layering
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Open the sliced sub rolls and layer the Genoa salami and ham on the bottom half, ruffling the meat for better texture.
Toasting & Melting
  1. Place mozzarella slices over the meat and sprinkle with dried oregano.
  2. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and melted, and the bread shows slight char marks on the edges.
The Salad Topping
  1. While the rolls toast, toss the shredded lettuce, red onion, and banana peppers with the creamy Italian dressing in a bowl.
  2. Remove toasted rolls from the oven and pile the dressed salad mixture onto the hot cheese. Close the sandwich and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra spice, add red pepper flakes to the salad mixture.
Use high-quality crusty bread to prevent the sandwich from getting soggy.
