Hey There! I’m Natalie Linden
Recipe Developer | Family Food Simplifier | Mom of Two | Age 38
Chicago-based home cook who believes weeknight dinners shouldn’t feel like a battle.
My Story
I didn’t set out to become a recipe developer. I was just a tired mom in Chicago staring into my fridge at 5:17 p.m., wondering how I was going to turn half a rotisserie chicken and a bag of wilting spinach into something my kids would actually eat.
In my early 30s, I loved cooking elaborate meals, homemade pasta, slow simmered sauces, recipes clipped from Bon Appétit. But once I had kids, everything changed. Suddenly, dinner wasn’t about creativity. It was about speed, budget, nutrition, and avoiding a meltdown at the table, theirs or mine.
That’s when I started experimenting with what I now call no drama dinners, easy family friendly recipes made with real ingredients, minimal prep, and flavors kids recognize but adults enjoy. What began as survival slowly became a calling.
The Turning Point
The real turning point came on a freezing January night here in Chicago. The wind was howling off Lake Michigan, I’d had a long day, and both kids were overtired. I tried a new “healthy” quinoa bowl recipe I found online. It looked gorgeous in the photos.
They wouldn’t touch it.
My husband quietly made peanut butter toast after I had spent an hour cooking. I remember standing at the sink, near tears, thinking, why does this feel so hard?
That night, I stopped trying to impress anyone. No more complicated ingredient lists. No more meals that required three separate pans and a prayer. I started testing recipes the way real families cook, during soccer practice weeks, during flu season, during those nights when you just don’t have it in you.
Something clicked. The meals were simpler. The table felt calmer. And I realized other families probably needed this too.
What I Learned the Hard Way
I learned that family friendly does not mean bland, but it does mean thoughtful.
I learned that kids need familiarity before they will try something new. And that exhausted parents do not need another 45 minute recipe with 18 ingredients and a specialty sauce.
I also learned that perfection is the enemy of consistency. When I stopped chasing picture perfect dinners and started focusing on realistic ones, everything changed.
My Approach Now
Today, I develop recipes built for real life. Think one pan dinners, 30 minute meals, smart shortcuts, yes, I use store bought pesto, and ingredients you can find at any Chicago grocery store.
Every recipe goes through the 5 p.m. test.
Is it practical?
Is it affordable?
Will at least one kid eat it without negotiation?
I focus on balance, protein, veggies, and comfort, without overcomplicating things. Because feeding a family well should not require culinary school.
What I Believe
- Simple recipes create consistent habits.
- Familiar flavors help kids feel safe trying new foods.
- You do not need specialty ingredients to make nourishing meals.
- A calm dinner table matters more than a perfect plate.
- Cooking at home should support your life, not overwhelm it.

A Little More About Me
When I am not testing recipes, you will probably find me walking along the Lakefront Trail with a podcast in my ears, rearranging my spice drawer for the hundredth time, or cheering loudly at my kids’ weekend games.
I am a big believer in Sunday resets, strong coffee, and keeping a backup box of pasta in the pantry, just in case.
Let’s Connect
If dinner feels overwhelming right now, you are not alone. I have been there, standing in front of the fridge, completely uninspired.
I would love to support you with practical recipes and honest encouragement. You do not need to be a food person. You just need a plan that fits your life.
